101216157 — LIFE24-NAT-CZ-LIFE Model Forest — LIFE-2024-SAP-NAT
The main objective of the project is to create a comprehensive model for the management of diverse forest habitats and associated species, in cooperation with forest owners, site managers, regions, municipalities, and with the participation of volunteers.
The aim is to improve the conservation status of 11 habitats (3 of them priority) and 12 species (3 of them priority) within 20 Natura 2000 sites (SCI/SCA) in 2 EU countries (Czech Republic and Poland), with extension to Austria and replication across Europe.
The project addresses issues such as:
- Low species and age diversity in forests
- Lack of old and dead trees
- Spread of invasive alien species
- Low public and stakeholder awareness
Total area:
19 km² of habitat areas (1/3 are priority biotopes)
- 36 km² for species support (especially insects and plants)
Invasive plant removal will also take place outside protected areas for maximum effect.
A 4-language methodology for managing invasive alien plants (IAS), including Echinocystis lobata, will be created and made public.
The project involves a strong consortium of:
- Nature conservation & research bodies (ONYX, IBL)
- Regional site managers (SBR, MSR)
- Volunteer-based organizations (PEH, NSB)
Targeted habitats include:
91D0*, 91E0*, 9180, 9110, 9130, 9170, 9190, 91F0, 91T0, 91U0, and peatland 7140
Targeted species include:
Osmoderma eremita, Callimorpha quadripunctaria, Gentianella bohemica,
Limoniscus violaceus, Lucanus cervus, Cucujus cinnaberinus,
Rhyzodes sulcatus, Carabus variolosus, Bombina variegata,
Bombina bombina, Triturus cristatus, Dicranum viride
