Anastasia Borovyk
Hey. Hey. My name is Anastasia Borovyk, I’m 25 years old. I’m from Ukraine. The last year of my life turned everything upside down. Total war broke out in my country, Russia attacked Ukraine and that changed everything. I studied graphic design at university. I worked as a designer in a commercial company. Got married and had a son. We dreamed of a peaceful family life in our house. Then it happened. Because of Ukraine’s desire to develop, to become more progressive, and because of the desire for a European family, Russia began to operate militarily throughout the territory of Ukraine. They call it a war of liberation. They say they are saving us from the nationalists. On the day of the total invasion, we lived in Kiev, and because we were afraid of being occupied by the Russians, we fled to the western part of Ukraine and then to the Czech Republic. We didn’t plan this at all. Over time, the need for housing and work arose. I met an amazing rescuer, Mariol from Petrklíč help, who introduced me to the possibility of volunteering. I had never volunteered before. In this situation, volunteering became a lifesaver not only for me but also for my family. I was a successful dissigner in my country, but when I found myself in a foreign country, I faced a language barrier that made it impossible for me to go to a regular job, and since I have a small child , I couldn’t go work elsewhere full time. Volunteering is about helping others, but in my case it helped me. I was able to find a volunteer job. It helped me to socialise in a foreign country, gave me a lot of new friendships and encounters and also an extraordinary amount of interesting work experience.
